---|---|---|
Integrated Movement Patterns | KLT focuses on how different body parts work together during movement. | Train the body as a unified system where every joint and segment contributes to effective motion. |
Functional Exercises | Exercises mimic real-life and sports-specific actions. | Enhance performance in daily activities and sports by targeting dynamic body functions. |
Coordination and Stability | Improve how different muscle groups coordinate and maintain stability. | Reduce injury risk and boost performance by training the body to control complex movements. |
Dynamic Loading | Muscles and joints are challenged with various forces and stresses. | Build strength, endurance, and flexibility through controlled dynamic exercises. |

GLA:D® Good Life with Arthritis: Denmark is an education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark, aimed at improving pain, function and quality of life for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms.
GLA:D consists of two sessions of patient education and 12 sessions of supervised, individualised exercise therapy delivered by our trained physiotherapists and evaluated in a national clinical registry.
35-42% average over-all pain reduction |
17-29% participants reduced pain medication use |

Education on osteoarthritis and the benefits of exercise. | Two 1-hour educational sessions. These include: 1. What is osteoarthritis, risk factors, symptoms, introduction to treatment. 2. Exercise, activities in daily living, coping, self-help tools. |
Use of graded progressive exercises to ensure that pain and discomfort are not excessive during or after exercise. | Incorporates exercise therapy in a small class environment. Each exercise is graded to the individual’s ability as assessed by the physiotherapist. Participants are observed and encouraged to report discomfort and pain levels during exercises. |
Initial exercises should be under expert instruction and supervision. | Exercise classes are supervised and run by physiotherapists who have been trained and registered in the GLA:D program. |
Supplementary material should be available to support face-to-face instruction. | Incorporate exercises that can be easily performed at home with minimal equipment or supervision. Participants receive supplementary material in the form of exercise sheets and logbooks. |
Monitoring over the long term with periodic re-assessment by a health professional is beneficial. | Participants are asked to fill out baseline osteoarthritis questionnaires and then repeat them at 3 months and 12 months. Participants are supported to think about and discuss exercise options beyond the 6-week program. |
