Tennis Elbow Injury: The Symptoms

Patients with tennis elbow usually present with pain, inflammation, redness and tenderness at the medial epicondyle of the humerus.

Pain upon flexing the wrist and hand is also present. Stretching the involved flexor muscles may also cause pain as these muscles can be in a contracted state due to overuse.

There are several recommendations regarding prevention, treatment, and avoidance of recurrence that are largely speculative including stretches and progressive strengthening exercises to prevent re-irritation of the tendon and other exercise measures.

Tennis Elbow Treatment: The Options

Evidence suggests that joint mobilisation with movement directed at the elbow resulted in reduction in pain and improved function.

Tennis elbow Epping

Positive results have been found with Osteopathic manipulation directed at the cervical spine.

Low level laser therapy administered at specific doses and wavelengths directly to the medial elbow tendon insertions offers short-term pain relief and less disability in LET, both alone and in conjunction with an exercise regimen.

Our clinic also utilises electro-therapeutic modalities which we have found to be very effective as a tennis elbow treatment option.

Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may be recommended by your osteopath in order to decrease inflammation and enhance the recovery process.

Other treatment modalities include:

  • Dry needling
  • Thermal therapies
  • Soft tissue mobilisation
