In Australia, osteopathy is considered an allied health profession. Medicare rebates are generally not available for visits to the osteopath. However, Medicare will cover treatment for those with chronic medical conditions under the Chronic Disease Management Scheme (CDM). The CDM is a government incentive that allows individuals with a chronic medical illness or condition to receive Medicare rebates for a maximum of five allied health services each calendar year. A chronic medical condition is one that has been present for six months or longer. Your GP will prepare an Enhance Primary Care (EPC) and refer you to an allied practitioner such as Muscle Joint Bone if you qualify for treatment.
If you have the appropriate level of private health insurance cover, you will receive a rebate for your osteo consultation. To learn whether your health fund will cover your podiatry appointment, call our clinic today.
